In math this year we used Connected Math 2 as our text book. Connected math 2 consists of eight units. We have finished six of the eight books so far. The units that we have done so far are: Prime Time, Bits and Pieces 1, Bits and Pieces 2, Shapes and Design, and Covering and Surrounding but, we are still working on How Likely Is It? We have been developing strategies to solve problems throughout the books. In every book there are about four investigations. They are 3 problems to each investigation. They help you understand the formulas and algorithms of the book. Also in each book there is a unit project which is a project that covers all of the big points of the unit. There is also a glossary and an index that has all of the vocabulary words and what page they are on. We put all of the vocabulary words into a notebook that will follow us to middle school next year.
In the beginning of each book there is something called a highlight which shows all important points of the unit you will learn and there are also questions you should ask yourself during the unit. This helps you know everything you should understand by the end of the unit. Also we have ACE which stands for Applications Connections Extensions which is the homework that goes with each problem we do in class. Each unit opens with three questions that you will know by the end of the unit.
Our binders are organized in four different sections: class work, homework, assessments, and reference. Our class work is a place in our binder that we put all of our class work in. Our homework is a place where we put all of the work that we did at home. Also our assessment section is where all of our graded assignments go. And last but definitely not least our reference section that we can refer to if we need it.
We have math packets weekly that have 3 to 5 sheets of math problems. The math packets help us to get better in our number sense and help us with our math skills. I think the math packets helped me a lot. We get them on Monday and we give our teacher back our completed math packets on Friday. One of the books we have finished so far is called shapes and designs. This book consists of many different things. It talks about the properties of many different shapes, how they fit together, and the area and perimeter of many different shapes and designs. This book was my favorite because in the algorithms to find different properties of the shapes you do a lot of mathematical problems which is my favorite. I love math so much it is my favorite subject.
